Non-surgical Options Can Help Your Nose

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

Is there something you don’t like about your nose? Would you like to have a nose that best matches the features of your face? LaFerriere and Kienstra Facial Plastic Surgery may have just the solution for you.

Not all nose improvements require surgery. Injectable treatments, including Botox and dermal fillers, can help reshape your nose to get just the right fit for your face. The benefits include a more balanced appearance, greater confidence, and minimal recovery time.

Drs. Kienstra or Laferriere will listen to any questions and concerns you may have and examine your nose for irregularities, skin thickness and color, and shape. This will help to determine what type of injection treatment is right for you and what part(s) of the nose should be modified to best meet your needs.

To schedule a consultation and discuss your options with Dr. Kienstra or Dr. Laferriere, call 417-887-FACE today.

How You Can Enhance Your Jawline

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

The jawline contributes to the balance of your entire face. It affects how your nose and cheeks look, creating definition between the cheeks and jaw. The ideal jaw is shaped like a smooth upside-down egg with soft angles, and is free of excess fat and skin. But how many of us are the ideal?

Here’s how you can enhance your natural features to compensate for a less-than-ideal jawline:

1. Achieve a chiseled jawline by using injectables and filler.

Botox® Cosmetic can be injected below the jawline to relax neck muscles. Fillers like Sculptra® Aesthetic, can be injected in front of and behind the jowls to smooth the jawline and add volume for a more proportional jaw.

2. Get long-lasting results with implants!

Your facial plastic surgeon can create a more balanced look by placing small, soft silicone implants in or around the jawline.

More Men See COSMETIC PROCEDURES As A Way To Remain Competitive At Work

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

Women still account for most of the cosmetic procedures performed, but more men are now willing to do something to remedy a sagging neck, hooded upper eyes or bags under the eyes, and to rid themselves of stubborn fat deposits.  While they may seek them out for different reasons than a woman, the number of men having a facelift increased 14% in 2010.  The number who had liposuction increased 7%, and the number of eyelid procedures in men increased by 15%.  All in all, more than 1.1 million men had a cosmetic procedure last year.

And it’s not just older men who are doing it.  Younger men, too, are viewing cosmetic procedures as a perfectly acceptable way to be more attractive or to correct features they consider unmasculine.

Why now?

For one thing, surgery that once required a hospital stay and weeks of downtime to recover is increasingly performed on an outpatient basis, with patients ready to re-enter their normal world after less time off from work.  Men aren’t in the habit of devoting time to a regular regimen of beauty care, but see quick, less invasive treatments, such as Botox® and dermal fillers that can be performed quickly during a short office visit, as attractive options.

Planning a Spring Wedding?

Friday, April 8th, 2011

Attention all brides, bridesmaids and mothers of the bride and groom! If you are considering a cosmetic procedure before the big day, plan ahead NOW for the look you want THEN.

The best time to schedule a procedure depends on the downtime associated with that procedure and how long you should expect to wait for the best results.

For example, Botox® Cosmetic requires almost no downtime, but the effects typically take a day or two to become noticeable, and you should expect a 7 to 10 day wait for full results. You can expect immediate results from facial fillers, such as Restylane® and Juvederm®, but (depending on the area injected) there may be some bruising and swelling, so you should allow at least 3 days for recovery. You should plan on a 2 to 4 week wait for best results following a mini-facelift or a minimally-invasive surgical procedure to tighten skin around the eye.

“The goal is to look natural and refreshed without showing any signs of having work done,” says Jonathan Sykes, MD, President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

That’s precisely what Drs. Keith LaFerriere and Matt Kienstra always say…If it doesn’t look natural, it doesn’t look good.

wrinkle treatments until your mid-30s

Monday, October 19th, 2009

BeautyMythsPro-actively treating your skin to avoid wrinkles is your best bet. Besides limiting sun exposure and wearing sunscreen, retinol creams and glycolic acid can help keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay. Clinical treatments, like BOTOX®, Restylane®, Juvederm® and other dermal fillers may actually help prevent deeper lines from forming.  Remember, it’s never too early to start taking care of your skin!
