Job hunting?
Tuesday, July 6th, 2010
More than ever before, job hunters…and those wanting to hold on to the jobs they have… are turning to cosmetic procedures to give them an “edge.”
Seventy-five percent of physicians surveyed by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery said that they had treated patients who requested facial plastic surgery to stay competitive in cut-throat job market. “Seasoned experts, once pictured in ads with lots of wrinkles, have been replaced by young go-getters with multiple degrees and the appearance of boundless energy,” said Dr. Steven Pearlman.
These patients consider it an investment that will help them get a job and pay for itself.
“I want whatever they’re having.”

Why do some people have facial skin that makes them look younger than their actual age? What are they doing differently than everyone else?
Genetics could be a factor, but they most likely began following these sensible rules while they were still young:
- Minimize ultraviolet exposure by avoiding the sun and tanning salons. When they do have to be in the sun, they protect their skin by applying a sunscreen with an appropriate level of UVA and UVB protection to the face, ears, neck, and the backs of the hands.
- Don’t smoke, because smoking encourages wrinkling by depriving the skin of oxygen and creating lines and (eventually) deep grooves around the mouth.
- Cleanse properly with warm (never hot) water and a gentle skin cleanser to remove makeup and excess oil. Be gentle…use your fingertips, not a terry cloth or scrubber, and never pick at blemishes.
- Drink water, moisturize, eat well, and sleep well. These habits are good for your general health, too…not just your skin.
It’s never too late to start taking better care of your skin!

Learn About Microdermabrasion
Monday, March 15th, 2010
Now you can have smoother, healthier, younger-looking skin without pain or surgery, and with no downtime for recovery. Microdermabrasion treatments do not interfere with those who enjoy outdoor activities. Microdermabrasion treatments are also beneficial for those who have acne due to oily skin. Microdermabrasion takes about 15-20 minutes and there is no discomfort or down time. The treatment leaves your skin a rosy-pink color for about 20-30 minutes and you can return to normal activities immediately.

The New Facial Injectable – Sculptra Aesthetic
Thursday, March 4th, 2010
Sculptra Aesthetic is a new facial injectable treatment. It works gradually to replace collagen and provides structure that lets your new look emerge more discreetly. An average number of treatment sessions of Sculptra is 3 injection sessions over a few months. The sessions are spread out this way because Sculptra gradually replaces lost collagen to restore a natural-looking appearance that can last up to 2 years.
TOP 5 Anti-Aging Skin Treatments
Wednesday, November 4th, 2009
From wrinkle fillers to hair removal, here are the top five non-surgical treatments*:
- BOTOX®—Reduces facial lines and wrinkles, and is a safe and effective way to diminish the appearance of facial wrinkles with minimal side effects.
- Hyalauronic acids—Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm are non-animal based hyaluronic dermal fillers which provide patients with restored skin volume and fullness while correcting moderate to deep facial wrinkles and folds.
- Chemical Peels—Restores a more youthful appearance to wrinkled, unevenly pigmented, sun-damaged, and blotchy skin.
- Laser Hair Removal—The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to travel down the hair shaft to the end of the hair follicle. This process will eliminate or greatly impede hair growth.
- Microdermabrasion—By exfoliating dead skin cells, microdermabrasion creates smoother, healthier skin in about 30 minutes.

Beauty Myth: You don’t need anti-
wrinkle treatments until your mid-30s
Monday, October 19th, 2009
Pro-actively treating your skin to avoid wrinkles is your best bet. Besides limiting sun exposure and wearing sunscreen, retinol creams and glycolic acid can help keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay. Clinical treatments, like BOTOX®, Restylane®, Juvederm® and other dermal fillers may actually help prevent deeper lines from forming. Remember, it’s never too early to start taking care of your skin!
True Beauty Question of the Month
Friday, September 18th, 2009
Q: I have very large, dark bags under my eyes. What kinds of treatments are available to make my eyes look better?
A: There are a number of different options available for reducing dark bags under your eyes. BOTOX can help smooth some bags under your eyes, and for more persistent bags, blepharoplasty can smooth and tighten eyes so they look younger and more refreshed. Dr. Keith LaFerriere or Dr. Matthew Kienstra can help you determine which treatment is right for you.
